About

Melanie is the founder of “Butterfly Holistic Services”.  I began my journey in 1999, when I enrolled on a leisure Aromatherapy course; here we learned about the various essential oils but also learned massage techniques, both giving and receiving.  Soon I realised this could benefit other people too so I enrolled for a Body Massage course, qualifying in June 2001.  I offered this at Donna Claire House (respite home for the physically disabled) and at Headlight, on a voluntary basis.

In 2003, I did my Indian Head Massage course, and having always been interested in the feet, began Reflexology, qualifying in June 2006.

After several years of doing voluntary work in this area at Headlight, they secured funding and I worked there in a paid capacity from January 2008 to January 2013.  An opportunity arose for me to do holistic therapies at the Fulwell Day Centre, Sunderland, commencing in September 2011 until January 2014.  I have named this service, “Butterfly Holistic Services”. I then gave treatments at the Dream Therapy salon for 8 months, and since October 2014, I have moved on to give treatments at the Top to Toe beauty salon in Sunderland city centre.

In July 2012 I passed a twelve-week course in Manicures & Pedicures.  2014 has brought two new changes – I qualified in Reiki, something I always wanted to do.  I went on to qualify in Facial Therapy later in the year, so I can now give treatments in these two new areas too.

I have now qualified in Hot Stone Massage Therapy, which is proving popular, in 2015.  In 2017 I qualified in Relaxation Therapy, and use this alongside the treatments, and also in the classes I deliver.

As most of my treatments are holistic, rather than beauty, I thought it better to move in October 2015 to the Sunderland Complementary Therapy Centre, where I am now practising from.  It is a lovely Centre, and the room very relaxing.  Sadly the centre closed down in June 2019, so I am now back giving treatments at Top to Toe beauty salon.

This is my journey so far!!
